I tried, it doesn't change anything, I don't think there is a way to hide threads.

You could put threads on the subscription list so that you can filter which threads you want to see and which you don't.

Any reason why you need to do this? As I am struggling to think of a reason why.

My advise is just ignore the thread, you do not need to click on it.

If it is a user in question, maybe press the 'Author' button above the threads column and then you will know when his threads will be, but I do not think you can do as you suggest, sadly.
